Bergitta E. Smith
Executive Vice President

Bergitta has overall responsibility for alliance operations and service lines that support its member associations. Prior to joining the staff in June 2008, she served as chief operating officer at the National Patient Safety Foundation. Bergitta has a bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is also a fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives.

Nicole V. Baptista
Policy Coordinator

Nicole serves on the Policy Team and focuses her efforts on supporting association committees, tracking legislation and regulations, and updating the membership on important public policy issues. Before joining the staff in August 2004, she worked in the office of Representative Martin T. Meehan (D-MA). Nicole has a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from The George Washington University.

Charles P. Clayton

Charlie supervises activities in the policy arena, which include policy development, legislative and regulatory advocacy, and development and implementation of activities in support of the alliance's policy agenda. Before joining the staff in July 1993, he worked for Drew University and US Naval Academy. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Charlie has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Drew University, where he received the H. Jerome Cranmer Prize in economic history and the Lisa Marcus Memorial Prize for political science.

Sheila T. Costa
Director of Meetings and Communications
Interim Director of Operations

Sheila oversees the team responsible for meetings and communications; she also works on building the alliance's operations team. Before joining the staff in June 1997, she worked for PortFolio Magazine and Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine. Sheila has a master’s degree in English from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in English from The College of William and Mary in Virginia.

Talia Duck
Member Services Coordinator

Talia supports the team responsible for member services, governance, and information technology.  She focuses her efforts on membership recruitment and retention, member services committees, and the development of new member benefits.  Before joining the staff in June 2009, she worked for YMCA Triangle Area in Raleigh, NC.  Talia has a bachelor's degree in economics from University of Pittsburgh.

Samantha E. Engler
Meetings Assistant

Samantha supports the association's national conferences on the meetings team by managing registration, working with speakers, developing evaluations systems, and providing administrative support. Before joining the staff in April 2008, she worked for ARAMARK. Samantha has a bachelor’s degree in international business and French from James Madison University.

John M. Gregory

John supports the team responsible for meetings and communications by assisting in the editing and production of association textbooks and periodicals, managing publication marketing and order fulfillment, and administering committee activities.  Before joining the staff in July 2009, he worked for the Washington Capitals and The Washington Times.  John has a master's degree in journalism from Georgetown University and a bachelor's degree in journalism from University of Arizona.

Kyle J. Hayden

Kyle supports the team responsible for meetings and communications. She executes national meetings, focusing on preparing meeting logistics, working with hotels, and managing program planning and agenda development efforts. Before joining the staff in November 2003, she worked for Alumni Association at University of Virginia. Kyle has a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from University of Virginia.

Steve helps the Member Services Team meet its responsibilities in governance and information technology. Before joining the staff in October 2002, he worked for Washington Lists and Lands’ End Inlet. Steve has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from State University of New York College at Brockport, where he graduated magna cum laude.

Jessica L. O’Hara

Jessie supports the Policy Team by providing administrative support to the team, tracking legislative and regulatory developments, conducting research on health care issues, attending hearings and meetings, and supporting the implementation of ongoing member service programs. Before joining the staff in September 2007, she worked for Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies. Jessie has a bachelor’s degree in English from Georgetown University.

Dane C. Secor

Dane assists the team responsible for member services, governance, and information technology.  He focuses his efforts on providing administrative support, maintaining membership databases, interacting with committees, processing applications, and maintaining the association websites. Before joining the staff in February 2008, he worked for The Review. Dane has a bachelor’s degree in English from University of Delaware.

Sarah S. Nester
Meetings Associate

Sarah supports the alliance's meetings by managing calls for workshops and abstracts, small meeting logistics, exhibitor and sponsorship relationships, marketing and material production efforts, continuing medical education activities, and committee activities.  Before joining the staff in February 2010, she worked for the Organization of Chinese Americans national office.  Sarah has a master's degree in English from Rosemont College and a bachelor's degree in communications from University of Tennessee.

Janet supervises activities in the member services arena, which includes information technology, governance, and membership. Before joining the staff in July 2000, she worked for the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research. Janet has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Miami University of Ohio.

Erika D. Tarver

Erika helps the Policy Team meet its responsibilities by managing the ASP T. Franklin Williams Scholars Program and the Integrating Geriatrics Project. Before joining the staff in August 2006, Erika worked for Africare and the United States Peace Corps. Erika has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Spelman College.
