As part of the John A. Hartford Foundation funded “Integrating Geriatrics into the Specialties of Internal Medicine: Moving Forward from Awareness to Action” project, ASP and the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) hosted the Workshop on Prediction, Progression, and Outcomes of Chronic Kidney Disease in Older Adults in May 2008. A goal of the workshop is to publish the proceedings from the workshop in a scientific journal. On May 21, 2009, ASP published a summary of the workshop proceedings in a manuscript entitled “Prediction, Progression, and Outcomes of Chronic Kidney Disease in Older Adults,” in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN). The workshop outlined key research issues within chronic kidney disease (CKD), such as classifying CKD in older adults, identifying mechanisms and models of CKD progression, and managing common co-morbidities in the aging population. Further information regarding the ASP-ASN workshop agenda and presentations can be found at the Workshop on Prediction, Progression, and Outcomes of Chronic Kidney Disease in Older Adults page.
