Nicole V. Baptista

As the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) prepares to release its highly anticipated proposed revisions to duty hours and learning environment regulations, the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM) is preparing to respond.  AAIM has convened a task force to draft a response to ACGME’s proposal and aid in member education efforts.

Task force members include the past presidents of the five alliance associations as well as several experts in the areas of duty hours and the learning environment.  The group anticipates the release of ACGME’s proposal in mid- to late-June.   Once the proposal is released, AAIM will solicit feedback from the alliance membership on ACGME’s proposed requirement revisions.

The task force is planning to provide information to the membership about best practices in response to the updated requirements.  Throughout the process, AAIM staff and leadership will contact the membership to receive feedback and advice on methods for implementation that may already be underway at certain programs.  Please look for additional information in future articles of AAIM Connection.
